Under 11 coaches wrap

After losing last week to a washout, we were pleased to be back on deck to take on Altona Roosters at Edwards Reserve.

Skipper Dylan won the bat flip and elected to bowl.

Some of the players showed concern during the week about the big scores our opposition have been making, so we talked about and implemented
a more defensive fielding strategy in order to restrict runs, and continued with our aim to bowl full and straight, keeping extras as low as possible.

Altona Roosters had some impressive players who looked to go big, but our strategy worked as they managed a gettable 113. We picked up 3 wickets in the process with a few half chances here and there.
Xavier bowled one of the best balls I’ve seen, hitting the seam and deviating significantly before crashing into the stumps.

In response, we found it difficult to get going early on due to some tight bowling and fielding, until Owen and Dylan came together and started to work the ball around, chipping away at the total.
We still had a lot of work to do, but when Atharv came in last with a “have a go” attitude and hit a few boundaries, the game went down to the wire.

Unfortunately we fell short by only a few runs (109), but everyone should be proud of their efforts as we learned a lot from playing against a stronger and more experienced side.

We have a scheduled bye this Friday, then our final game before the break against Altona Sports White.
