U17 R7

The U17’s played Altona at Altona on Saturday morning. Qasim won the toss and chose to bowl first. The 8am start was a bit of a struggle for some as we took a few overs to wake up. We were unlucky with a few early run out chances and half chance catches which let their one key batter off the hook. Qasim got the first wicket, and then Elijah teamed with Ged to run out their no.3. Altona were able to build a partnership and eventually their opener retired on 50n.o. We kept it pretty tight with the bowling and got the odd wicket and at the end of the 24 overs Altona finished on 4/116. Qasim 2/14 off 4 overs and Darcy 1/14 off 4 overs.

Chasing a 117 off 24 overs should have been a straightforward task, but we just kept losing wickets early and after 10 overs we were 4/30. Harvey and Taj were able to steady the ship and forge a good partnership and score at the RRR of 5 runs per over. Harv pushed for a quick single, Taj looked like he made is ground, but square leg didn’t agree and was on his way for 16, which brought Darcy to the crease. Harv and Darcy kept up the scoring rate until Harv popped one up to a short mid-wicket and he was on his way for 44. Darcy (9) then went out and we were 7/88, which left Scothy and Elijah to get the final 29 runs off 4 overs. Scothy(6) got bowled and as we were 2 players short we were all out at 8/90. We lost the game by 26 runs. Let’s re-group after Christmas and get back to our winning ways.
