Third XI Round 1 Wrap!

Round 1 vs Williamstown

A new season with plenty of new faces in the team this year, I was excited to see how we’d perform.

Losing the toss on what looked like a wet sticky wicket. We were sent in to bat. Rohan and Varish opened up. Varish’s first game for the club and the boys made it look easy. Consistently putting away anything loose the Williamstown bowlers dished up. With the scoreboard ticking along nicely Rohan mistimed a lofted drive and was caught for 21 with the score at 1-53 a great platform for us to work from. Liam Mc next in and he kept the scoreboard ticking over making a quick fire 17 before being caught behind. Varish at the other end was looking really good putting away anything short or wide. Rohit joined Varish at the crease and the run rate never dipped, the two boys playing some really positive cricket. Varish brought up his his 50 in his first game for the club. Rohit fell next making better then a run a ball 26. 3-134 with plenty of overs left. Varish ended up falling for a brilliant 71 of just 78 balls. Which brought myself to the crease and I didn’t last long 🦆 quack. Which brought Mark Cranwell to the cease and Cranny picked up where he left off last year, really anchoring our innings and using all his expirence making 63. Everyone else chipped in around cranny and we finished the innings all out for 243.

Maaz and Freddy opened up the bowing for us and with Williamstown needing to be aggressive. Took us on early. Before Maaz removed their captain taking his first spotty wicket in the process. Maaz removed the other opener not long after. Freddy toiled hard at the other end. Nathan followed Freddy and had no luck and I followed Maaz. A few poor balls from myself were punished to the boundary before I made the breakthrough with Williamstown now at 3-87 off not many overs and anyone’s game. Some tight bowling from
Myself and young Zack webb on debut halted any momentum Williamtown tried to build. Liam Mc replacing me and taking no time getting into the action taking a wicket with his first ball as we continuted to roll though the Willy batting line up. Zack also taking his first spotty wicket in the process
We eventually bundled Williamstown out for 144
Wicket takers
Maaz 5.2 overs 3-22
Haydn 9 overs 4-30
Zack webb 6 overs 1-18
Liam mc 3 overs 2-9
A 98 run win a great all round team performance to start the year.
A two dayer against Strathmore awaits.

Congratulations on Maaz, Varish, Rohit, Nav and Zack Webb on making their spotty debuts.
