First XI Round 1 Wrap!
Round 1 we were hosted by Moorabbin, we lost the toss and we were thrown the ball. We got off to a shaky start losing Taylor and Jako early having us 2/12. We were soon able to get the game back onto our terms as Lachie and Jarrod put together a really nice partnership. Lachie reaching a half century after bashing some long balls over the boundary and Marts losing his wicket for an unfortunate but very well played 49. Lachie not long after falling for 70 having us in a position at 4/146.
A few cheap dismissals lead to a string of quick wickets through the middle order giving Moorabbin the momentum of the game towards the back end of our innings – Declan running out of partners as we were all out for 185 in the 41st over. knowing that we have probably left 30-40 runs out there when we had to bowl and field extremely well to win this game.
Moorabbin came out all guns blazing with the bat putting our classy seam bowlers under pressure early at 0/42 after 6 – insert Ansh Sharma. The young gun took the first three wickets of innings in an exceptional display of bowling, cool, calm and collected for a 16-year-old kid was extremely impressive to watch. This kickstarted our bowling innings as we had them 5/62 after 15. The home team then strung a couple of decent partnerships together to really make a game of it taking things down to the wire in an intense match. Lachie McKenna chimed in with three very handy wickets towards the back end of the game and we finished with 3 runouts along with a run out out to collect Moorabbins 10th wicket. A tough day for the seamers on a pretty flat wicket, with all three spinners bowling exceptionally well – a big shout out to Sonny Mandalika who bold beautifully with no personal reward for the day. Ansh 4/23 from 9, Lachie Mckenna 3/29 off 9 were the pick of the bowlers.
A huge backs to the wall effort for round one with a really gutsy win. Round two we host Taylers Lakes at home in the first Red Ball game of the season
