U15 Round 1 Wrap

We hosted Truganina CC in our first game Friday night. The team was a familiar bunch, with the majority of last year’s U13 team rising to the U15 age group. We have welcomed a couple of new players also.
Asked to bowl first, Rhys took the new ball to bowl the first over of the season. We started well with only 12 runs coming from the first 3 overs to what looked to be two quality Truganina openers. Unfortunately, the bowling tapered off and wayward line and length was regularly dispatched to the boundary (or over it!). Our spinners, led by first year player, Jujhar attempted to slow the scoring rate, but the boundaries were still consistently flowing.
At the completion of the innings, Truganina had compiled 3/151. Well done to Fox, Robbie and Riaan who chipped in with a wicket each.
With a mammoth task ahead, Rhys and Riaan strode to the crease. A fast start, 40 off 5 overs, created belief that we were in with a fight. The Truganina bowlers tighten up and runs became hard to come by.
The fantastic opening stand of 62 runs was broken when Rhys fell for 28. Riaan was dismissed shortly after for 27 and the game was all but over as the run rate req’d had risen to around 13. Robbie (19) and AJ (19) tried their hardest scoring at around a run a ball each, unfortunately the task was too difficult.
Chasing 151, SCC scored 2/109.
Plenty to like about the way the team supported each other and their hunger to be better.
We’re off to Point Cook next Friday where we look to improve on our first outing.
Go Spotty!
