Under 11 Gold Round 2 Match Report
After a mid-week fixture change, we found ourselves at our new spiritual home ground behind Altona Gate Shopping Centre.
We were facing off against Footscray-Angliss with our full list of 9 players this week and Raffy, Emma and Georgina were making their debut for us.
There were a few uneven spots in the outfield and short boundaries but at least the weather was relatively conducive to a game of cricket. We lost the toss and were sent in to bat.
George and Raffy got us off to a decent start seeing off the first few overs and scoring some runs but unfortunately lost a wicket each.
In came Percy and was very productive racking up the singles before finding the boundary twice, then Georgina followed and she did very well in her first game, seeing out the bowling.
Leo upped the run rate with a few boundaries and Emma, also in her first game did very well with the bat. Ed, Aryanjoy and Ned closed out the innings by turning over the strike regularly
and also added a few boundaries, however Footscray-Angliss hit back with a few late wickets which put them in a good position for a run chase.
We finished with 8-122 which I felt was defendable. Leo 19, Percy 15 and Aryanjoy and Ned with 12 each were the top scores.
Our bowling and fielding was good, but we did have a few close calls, missing a few runout chances and giving away overthrows on a few occasions.
We really need to tighten up here, and for this reason, the game was a lot closer than it should have been. After the first 10 overs I felt that Footscray-Angliss had the advantage,
but with some tight bowling in the second half of the innings, we wrestled back control and scraped in with a win.
Footscray-Angliss 4-115 in response. George, Aryanjoy and Ned picking up a wicket each.
Coach Adrian (Dizzy)
