Round 6 saw us at home again to take on the other Willy Colts teams, again looking to improve on last week's effort and try to get the best out of ourselves.
Rose was captain and she won the toss and decided we would have a bowl, see if we could restrict their runs and know the target we would be chasing.
Short and simple fact is we did not restrict their runs.
We bowled too short, we did not bowl to the plan I wanted and in doing so, Willy Colts were easily able to score at will, punishing anything not on length and with a very inconsistent and lack lustre fielding, Willy Colts racked up a mammoth 3/183 after 22 overs with most bowlers off their lengths and the fielding not offering much resistance, it was tough going. Gavi took 1-12 from his 3 overs, Rhys had 1-12 from 2 and Aussie was our only other wicket taker. I thought Jujhar and Riaan did well trying to drag the scoring rate down during their spells.
AJ and Rhys were sent out to start our run chase, and needing to score quickly, they started off well with some nice batting and aggressive running (good to see) but Rhys was caught short of his crease with the score on 11. AJ was joined by Riaan as they looked to keep things going, but after a 3 lovely boundaries, AJ was out for 19 and we were on the back foot already at 2-28. Roy came and went, holing out trying to move the score along, so Gavi was sent in to bat with Riaan to see if they could attempt to try and put some scoreboard pressure back on the Willy Colts. It was not to be.
A combination of good bowling and fielding from Willy and very watchful and considered batting from us, saw the runs dry up and the required run rate blow out. Whilst the pair batted well, it was a bridge to far, they did lift their work rate late in the innings with some lovely shots and started to get those quick singles we need to do more regularly, the result was a given.
Riaan finally fell for 44 from 60 balls in the 20th over, which saw Gavi hitting out until he lost his wicket with a ball to go , making 36 from 41 balls.
We finished on 5/116
Not a good night, not what we want or need as a team. If nothing changes, nothing changes and this seems to be the way at the moment.
We need to play to the game plan and keep the effort and attitude where it should be.
Let's see what this week brings as we take on West Point Titans at home, will be a challenge again as they sit 2nd on the ladder with their only blemish being a forfeit
