Under 11 Gold Round 8 Match Report

30 Nov by Amanda Beckett

Altona hosted us this week and the biggest challenge for both teams was the big blue blob on the BOM radar heading our way. Captain Emma lost the toss but Altona elected to bat which suited us anyway.

We started off well and continued to take wickets across the entire innings, our fielding and wicket keeping was superb with not many byes, no overthrows, some relay throwing to get the ball back in and direct hit runouts from Percy and Leo.

Leo ended up with 2/9 and Ned, Raffy, Aryanjoy, Percy and Edison with 1 a piece.

We were able to restrict Altona to 82, but with the rain getting closer, there was a risk of the game ending without a result.

To ensure we were above their score as quickly as possible, I sent out Ned and Leo to push the issue from the start. They put on 35 together and with our 10 wickets, we were getting close.

Aryanjoy, Percy, Raffy, George and Edison all stuck to the plan and kept the scoreboard ticking over with close to a run a ball or thereabouts.

Well ahead of the total at this stage, Emma and Georgina were left to close out the innings and bat together for the first time. They ended up doing a fantastic job together, not losing a wicket and Emma making her top score.

I was really impressed with our performance in this game, there were no errors and we held Altona to 1 wicket. We need to take this momentum into the next game where we play Gellibrand at Bond Reserve.

Our Stan's Grill award winner this week was Percy, he took a wicket and almost had one or two more, a great piece of game sense to run out the non-striker with a direct hit, and an almost run-a-ball 11.
