Under 11 Gold Round 9 Match Report

9 Dec by Amanda Beckett

No rain to speak of this evening, and we were hosting Gellibrand at Bond Reserve.

Captain Leo won the toss and elected to bat. We got off to a good start with Percy and Harrison.
2 lovely shots for 4 by Harrison got the scoreboard moving and when Raffy came in and hit 16 off 13, we were looking good.
Gellibrand hit back with several wickets including some sharp catches and the game was in the balance again.
George came in and really steadied the ship with some smart batting and good running between the wickets.
Ned and Aryanjoy did their part, both making double figures before Leo came in to finish off the innings with some lofty hitting.

We finished with 8-158, Leo with 28 and Raffy with 16

At this stage it was anyone's game and the plan as always is to bowl nothing short. We immediately picked up a wicket with a direct hit by Raffy,
and then George slipped a yorker past their defence for our second. After the Gellibrand openers retired, their next batters started to score more freely
and we needed to put the clamps on Aryanjoy gave nothing away picking up 2 wickets with a caught and bowled of the final ball of the game and Ned's pace
really troubled the opposition, also with 2 wickets. Percy, George and Georgina chipping in with 1 each. I thought Gellibrand batted well,
they certainly used their opportunities to take runs far better than we did and the game felt a lot closer.

Gellibrand 10-133. Aryanjoy 2-9 and Ned 2-14

Our Stan's Grill award winner this week was George picking up a wicket bowling full and straight, 9 runs and some solid work behind the stumps.

Next week is the last game before the Christmas break. We take on Williamstown (Liston) at our traditional home ground.

Coach Adrian (Dizzy)
