We came up against Endeavour Hills with a bit of rain around for week 1 hoping to be able to get a full game in. After some super sopping and doing the covers a couple of times we lost the toss and were sent in to bat.
Ansh (21) and Mubi got us off to a good start in tough conditions putting on 38 for the first wicket before we lost 4/1 in 4 overs to undo all of their hard work. Nav (47) and Jason started to rebuild from there before Jason and Cooper fell in quick succession to make us 6/66. Jesse (16) came in and played well on debut before falling just before tea as we went to the break 7/101. Moose (25) came in and batted well alongside Nav as they tried to push us to a defendable total. Nav fell just short of his half century before we were bowled out for 153.
With 28 overs left to bowl in the day, we had a good chance to pick up some early wickets and put them under pressure heading into next week. Moose helped us do just that, taking a wicket first ball and another in his second and third overs to make them 3/13. We kept pushing for wickets, but we unable to find another breakthrough that night as they finished at 3/80. Arriving week 2 to a nice flat wicket we were going to have to make early inroads to put them under pressure and give ourselves a chance. Moose got us underway again in the 3rd over to make them 4/87 before he and Ansh got 2 in quick succession to get them 6 down with 30 still to get. Unfortunately we were unable to keep up the pressure and they passed us 6 down as they made the most of the excellent batting conditions. Their number 3 made a good hundred (helped along by a few dropped catches by us) before they declared 80 runs ahead and sent us back in. Moose finished with 5/61 off 20 overs and Webby, Ansh and Mubi all picked up a wicket each.
Charlie and Mubi made the most of the chance to get some extra batting practice, as Charlie blitzed his way to a brilliant 100 with Mubi supporting him well with 30 at the other end as we got to 0/132 in 25 overs before we finished up. Charlie provided some real highlights hitting 5 sixes including one into the clubrooms and one onto the fairway on the first hole at the golf course.
A disappointing overall result, but there was enough positive signs to suggest that we will improve on this performance moving forward. We had a bad week 1 which cost us but I think week 2 showed more of the level we are capable of and where we should be for the rest of the year. Big game this week against Werribee in the T20 as we look to go into Christmas on a high.
