First XI Round 7 First X1 captains wrap

16 Dec 2025 by Amanda Beckett

After day one was washed out with poor weather around day 2 was turned into a one day game we lost the toss and were thrown the ball. The conditions were going to be tough for the day with a slow and underprepared wicket - the home team started off well putting together a couple of nice partnerships early until Sam struck first Endeavour Hills 1/37. Again Endeavour Hills putting together a nice partnership and wickets were tough to come by early until Mac produced a great run out which started the momentum turning back our way 2/67. We were able to slow the run rate down and find our feet with the ball again. Sonny bowled beautifully early in his spell, I was able to chip in with a wicket and the Don with a couple of poles. Jimmy Stewart in his first game was immense in the field, as he took an absolute screamer in the outfield we had the home side 7/152. They came out pretty hard towards the back end of the innings, young Randy was awesome with the ball towards the end our bowling innings - as we were able to bowl them out in the 43rd over for 199.

Sonny 3/31
Sam 3/45
Don 2/31

200 to win and the innings started off with a bang Lachie launching the first ball over the ropes, unfortunately losing his wicket a couple of overs later - Seamus run out for 0 and Blayde out early for 7 leaving us in a bit of trouble at 3/31 - the home team with all the momentum. Myself and Mac were able to steady the ship a little takes some emotion out of the game in a highly emotional match and get the game back on our terms. We were able to put together an 80 run partnership up till the drinks break steadying us to 3 for 112 halfway through our innings.

Shorty fell 1st ball after the drinks break bringing Ross to the crease - with scoring difficult and conditions getting tougher we really had to scrap from this point onwards to keep ourselves in the game. I was able to get myself to a hard fought half century, as Ross get himself to 15 and out to a nice bit of bowling. Once again insertJimmy Stewart to the game - it didn’t look like his first game in the first X1 cool calm collected found his way into the game with the bat looking at home. I end up losing my wicket for a reasonably well played 72 - very disappointing time of the game to get out when it was on the line - but up stepped our kids as we lost Don first bowl the game was in the hands of the kids Randy and Jimmy.

Once again, Randy in his second game in the ones and only 15 years old was cool calm and collected. Putting on a crucial 20 run partnership that steadied the ship as Sonny joined Randy at the crease to get the game finished in the 44th over with a wicket to spare. An amazing effort by a young fellas which shows the club is in great stead, and a very gutsy win from our boys.

Myself 72
Mac 30
Jimmy 26

A fantastic win as we now look ahead to Werribee in the T20 this weekend to finish the year off strongly.
