In an interesting start to the day our squad of 12 became 11 thanks to a sprained ankle before falling to 10 due to a stolen car. After a late call up for Harsh, we won the toss and batted, not knowing if he was going to arrive in time to take the field.
The original plan to bowl first looked like it would have been the better option as the pitch had a bit of life in it early and we lost Randy and Craig to fall to 2/11 in the 3rd over. Nav (35 off 24) and myself (47* off a million) rebuilt from there, with Nav showcasing some excellent T20 batting, very much in contrast to me at the other end. We took the score to 70 before Nav fell, with Harsh and Jase falling soon after to leave us teetering at 5/86 and needing a good finish to the innings to put up a defendable score. Enter big Jesse Wittmann who came out and produced some of the cleanest striking you are ever likely to see. He hit 2 massive 6s, including one that almost went over the Werribee clubrooms, and another couple of boundaries as he raced to 24 off 20 before running himself out with 2 overs left chasing extra runs. I then burnt moose for a diamond duck before some good running between the wickets from Mubi and I got us to 7/134 from our 20 overs. A pretty good effort in the end and certainly defendable if we hit our areas with the ball.
Mubi (2/20 off 4) and Moose (2/17 off 4) got us off to a great start only conceding 5 from the first 2 overs and Moose taking a big wicket too. Werribee tried to make the most of the powerplay from there though, chancing their arm and producing a few big overs to get to 1/46 after 6. Webby (0/16 off 4) came on and was once again given the tough job of bowling with the short leg side boundary, but with his variations was able to keep the batsmen well in check, conceding only one boundary in his 4 overs and being unlucky not to pick up a wicket. Speaking of unlucky, Jesse came on at the other end and had a plumb LBW shout turned down for their best bat before we dropped him twice in 2 balls off his bowling. Webby kept us in it through the middle overs with his tight bowling but they got to 1/96 after 14 overs needing 39 off 36 with both batters well set. Randy and Mubi tightened the screws from there, with Mubi picking up 2/8 from his last 2 overs and Randy taking the big wicket of their captain and taking 1/13 from his last 3 overs, an excellent comeback after his first over went for 14 early on. Moose ended up having 17 to defend in the last over and he gave them only 2 as Werribee finished 5/120 from their 20 overs.
An excellent fighting win which wasn't looking too likely at 1/106 and it was good to see our young boys step up to the challenge. A great effort to beat second on the ladder to keep our season alive heading into the second half of the season. A special shoutout to Craig for his 200th game as well, while it didn't go as he would have hoped personally, it was good to have a win in his milestone game.
