Back again after the break, with bodies rested and ready to go, we faced off against Grand United.
Grand United have shown themselves as a strong contender and we would need to play our best cricket in order to challenge them.
The game took place at our spiritual home behind Altona Gate, and to our surprise, the playing surface has had some work done to it and was looking great. Harrison won the bat flip and decided that we bowl first.
We stuck to our game plan and bowled well. George with sensational figures of 2/1 off 2 overs, and well supported by Percy, Ned, Raffy and Edison with 1 wicket each respectively.
Our fielding was top notch and we unfortunately dropped a few catches that went over the boundary, but that's cricket and we can work on it during the week.
Grand United finished with 6/119 which I felt was gettable with sensible batting, keeping wickets lost to a minimum.
Raffy and Ned started us off seeing out some of their quicker bowlers and accumulating runs at the same time. Then Edison and George came in and spent time working the ball around for ones and 2s, we were doing alright and hadn't given away many wickets. Harrison came in and unfortunately lost a few wickets, but he didn't drop his head or give up, he fought back and started sending the ball all over the place hitting 19 off 17 and putting us in a great position, before Percy and Leo closed out the innings doing more than enough to get us over the line, again facing their quicker bowlers and not losing a wicket. The entire team should be proud of the way they went about our run chase.
We were 5/137 in response and a good way to start the year. The team stuck to the game plan and it paid off.
Next week we're back here again, this time against Newport-Digman Maroon.
Harrison was the well deserved winner of the Stan's Grille award this evening for bowling tightly and his match winning innings of 19 off 17 balls.
